Larry Kudlow, the chief economic adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, praised Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, who is facing scrutiny over the use of a private email account while serving in an official capacity at The White House.
“I think the absolute world of Ivanka Trump, who is a brilliant woman and a really important adviser to all of us,” Kudlow told reporters outside the West Wing on Tuesday. “Period.”
A report published Monday in The Washington Post alleged that the first-daughter violated federal employee records rules by sending hundreds of emails in total to government officials on her personal email account in 2017.
Democratic members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committees announced on Tuesday that they plan to investigate whether Trump’s use of a private email account violated the presidential and federal records acts.
A congressional aide to a senior Democratic member of Congress told The Daily Tack that the committees are planning “to continue our investigation of the presidential records act and federal records act, and we want to know if Ivanka complied with the law.”
Peter Mirijanian, a spokesperson for Ivanka Trump’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, said in a statement that Ivanka “sometimes used her personal account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family.” Mirijanian added that “no classified information was ever included … and no emails were ever deleted.”
Mirijanian added that her emails have been forwarded to her official government account in order to be compliant with the federal records law.
